Culinography: Conch Soup
I was recently on a little Caribbean island off the coast of Honduras for a friend’s wedding. This conch soup was made for the bride and groom the day after their wedding and served at a big family brunch. Friends had caught the conch and picked coconuts on the island for the broth. It was […]

Culinography: Husk Cherries
Husk cherries came in our CSA box this week. These sweet little packages are somewhere between a tomatillo, a cherry and a yellow tomato. Delicious!

Culinography: Rosh Hashana
Happy New Year! Rosh Hashana is this Wednesday and Thursday and is the beginning of the Hebrew calendar. It also kicks off the Jewish high holidays (or holy days). As a way of sweetening the year ahead, apples and honey are eaten; and instead of baking a regular loaf of challah, loaves are baked round […]

Culinography: Blackout (The Blind Restaurant)
I just had the most unique dining experience of my life and I have no idea what my food looked like. Basically, the above is what I saw for two hours straight. NOTHING. I mean absolutely nothing. Didn’t matter if my eyes were opened or closed, couldn’t see even a speck of light. This happened […]

Three friends and I went to a few vineyards in the Ella Valley and […]

Culinography: Ketchup Packet Vodka (TLV)
As if little $1 yogurt cups of vodka to-go weren’t amazing enough, I have also found oversize ketchup type packets of vodka at corner stores in Tel Aviv! These are also $1 and will fit in by beach bag even easier. I just pick up a bottle of cold seltzer on my way down to […]

Culinography: The Shouk (TLV)
A shouk is a big outdoor market that sells not only produce but meat, cheese, bread, spices, housewares, clothes, shoes and pretty much anything you can think of. The shouk in Tel Aviv is amazing and much cheaper than a grocery store. Israel is a tiny country– only 260 miles at its longest, 60 miles […]
