This past Sunday, we hosted Japan Beer Fest along with the Trappist for the fourth time. Japan Beer Fest has become an annual Old Oakland tradition that falls on a Sunday during SF Beer Week. On this day, the Trappist switches out all the taps of their front and back bars with Japanese craft beers and we open our back door (a rare event) that connects to the Trappist beer garden.

This year, as in year's past, we invited Aburaya to make Japanese fried chicken and John from Team Print Shop to live screen print limited edition t-shirts. The event started promptly at noon, attracting Japanese beer lovers from as far away as Las Vegas!

For a complete list of beers that were served on tap and in bottles, please follow this link.

Although we've been thankful for all the rain we've been getting lately, we welcomed the gorgeous weather on Sunday!

The calm before the storm at the Trappist.

We launched a few new beers at Umami Mart that day, including Hitachino Koji Il Roso Black and White bottles.

Here's Ruben of the Trappist getting the bottles and beer slushie machine ready for the patio.

This was the line up of bottles and cans we offered that day.

As mentioned above, Japan Beer Fest is part of SF Beer Week, which continues through February 19th.

Aburaya tacked up their famous menu. The line formed very shortly after this.

John from Team Print Shop got his live screen print bike set up next to Aburaya. This was the first year that we offered limited edition Japan Beer Fest shirts!

Chris was excited.

As soon as it hit noon, Aburaya's fryers were going full force and the food and beers were busted out.

Thirty minutes in, the patio was full.

Ruben served up beer slushies.

Aaron and Ruben took care of the bottle and can service.

Two beer slushies, coming right up.

DJ Black Tunic served up the tunes all day.

We could not have asked for a more beautiful day to hang out in the beer garden.

Meanwhile in the front bar, things were bustling with Syd womanning the taps featuring Hitachino and Baird beers.

In the back, bar, the Shiga Kogen beers were flowing as did the early springtime light.

Japan Beer Fest is one our favorite events of the year. It's a day when we get to work with all of our favorite Oakland neighbors and see all of you come through. Thanks for coming out and we will see you again next year!!
